A new type of camp

Please before diving in and reading, note that the WiFi at camp was terribly slow so this is a little bit late! Sorry!

Karakku- a boarding school two hours from Helsinki where they send 120 confused, tired, teenage forginers to learn one of the hardest lanuages and attempt at not making them tired, confused, and less offensive. Also, one of the world's loveliest places.

I have been in Finland for about four whole days now. Each day I feel more confortable (I have a long way to go still :). The weather has been ablsoultly perfect, about 27C (for those who don't really understand celcius, like me, it is about 75F) and the water is just a little bit cooler.

The first morning after the flight, I woke up at 5am and was terribly confused. I still had my watch with Ohio time on it, so that did not make the figuring out where I was any better. But after I did, after of course my roommate explained, everything was okay.

Things which are "noteable"

-sandwitches are a breakfast thing
-bread is for every meal
- the toliets are scary
-they serve unalocalic beer for everyone, all the time
-eye contact is flirtingg
-finnish churches are amazing... so are the Argentians!! Olay!! Olay!!
-Vollyball is the best sport for all forginers to learn together
-Sauana then lake swimming and lake sports are amazing
-lectures make all the Brazilians sleep
-pineapple and carrots are a normal thing
-Mexicans enjoy making everyone try their spices
-Us, Americans, are really loud.
-We get out of studies for "Kaffee" or coffee time (one of my favorites... but the glasses are much smaller. They have smaller mugs because they drink so much of it)
-I paddle boarded, sauana, hiked, cannoned, and rowed all in a 2 hour span.
-the windows and doors do not have any screens on them... this means bugs everywhere but everything is fresher
-my blazer is already covered
-Finland is only dark for four hours.

I feel as though I keep writing how amazing it is here. But to be completely honest, this place is truly awe inspiring. Today we walked a few miles to a church to just have time to reflect. While I was looking around I saw everyone around me and it struck me how lucky we are. We were sitting in a chuch older than most of us can count (in finnish at least) and out side the hudge  windows it was just rolling hills, blue lakes, and pine trees. I have so much to learn still but I know for sure that it doesn't matter where you are from or what you speak, people are just people. On the walk back we all learned how to say "friend" in each others languages.

p.s.
the current score in vollyball is
western hemisphere: viisi (5)
eastern hemisphere: kaski (2)
