The Summer Cottage: The Journey

This weekend I had the chance to go to a paradise- my family's summer cottage. It is located about a four hour drive north-west, about 100 km west of Russia. This area of Finland is known as the lake region. I now understand why. On the drive up there, through the winding road and pine forests, the land in spotted with blue, fresh water lakes. The water is so fresh you can drink from it.

The drive out there (which started with a pick up from school at 2.45) consisted of a car, a ferry, and a boat. All to get to the island.
Let the Trip Begin!

He put up with four hours of me practicing Finnish... what a good father!

It is customary to wave to the man which runs the ferry.

This is the largest lake in Finland, so that means huge steam ships.

I had to get out! The people in the other cars were laughing at me.... that is okay though!
